Furkan Korkmaz has signed a 1+1 deal with AS Monaco, returning to the EuroLeague after spending seven years in the NBA with the Philadelphia 76ers.
One of the biggest free agents on the market has decided to return to the EuroLeague. AS Monaco officially announced a 1+1 deal with Turkish star Furkan Korkmaz.
"I've always been impressed by the growth and ambition of this organization and the team," Korkmaz told the official club website. Watching the playoffs last season, I saw the potential in this group and thought it was the right environment for me to bring my game and contribute to the team's success."
The 27-year-old wing last played for the Philadelphia 76ers, where he averaged 2.5 points, 0.9 rebounds, and 0.7 assists in 8.6 minutes per game over 35 appearances during the 2023-24 season.
In February, Korkmaz asked the 76ers to be traded, and his wish was granted ahead of the deadline. The 2.01-meter sharpshooter was included in the Buddy Hield trade. In return, the Indiana Pacers received Korkmaz, Marcus Morris, and three second-round picks.
However, soon after the trade, the Pacers waived Korkmaz, leaving him without a team for the remainder of the season.
Korkmaz spent all 6.5 of his NBA seasons with the Sixers, who drafted him as the 26th pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. Over his NBA career, he averaged 6.8 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 328 regular-season games, with a 35.6% shooting percentage from beyond the arc.
Before his stint in the NBA, Korkmaz played four seasons with Anadolu Efes Istanbul, where he won two Turkish Cups (2015, 2017) and the Turkish Supercup in 2015.
He also played 40 games in the EuroLeague over three seasons between 2014 and 2017, averaging 3.0 points with a 41.1% three-point shooting percentage.
Korkmaz's return to the EuroLeague marks another loud acquisition for Monaco, which brought Kemba Walker last summer.
