The club announced the mutual decision in a statement, confirming that the 18-year-old guard will leave the team to focus fully on his development with hopes of making the jump to the NBA.

"Dame Sarr will not be part of the Barca roster for the rest of the 2024-25 season," the statement read. "The club and the player have reached a mutual agreement so that he can focus on his sporting future, with an eye on making the leap to the NBA."

The contract will remain in place until the end of the season, which is the natural expiration of the deal. Keeping the contract in place until the end of the season will help Barcelona maintain his rights whenever he's back in Europe.

Sarr joined FC Barcelona in 2022 from Bassano and quickly made his mark. In his first season (2022-23), he split time between the club’s junior squad and Barca Atletic.

That same season, he made his senior debut in Liga Endesa against Bilbao Basket, becoming the second-youngest player ever to debut for Barca in Spain’s top league.

Sarr’s rise continued into the EuroLeague. On November 3, 2023, he made his EuroLeague debut against Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens, followed by minutes in another matchup versus Zalgiris Kaunas.
