Desmond Bane took responsibility for the firing of Memphis Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins, stating that the players are ultimately to blame for not executing the game plan.
The Memphis Grizzlies made a shocking decision to part ways with head coach Taylor Jenkins, just weeks before the start of the playoffs.
While the timing of the firing raised eyebrows, it appears not all players were on board with the move. However, one of Memphis' top players, Desmond Bane, took a different approach and addressed the situation head-on.
"It's on us for sure," Bane said. "We're the five players out there. Coach didn't shoot one shot all season; he didn't guard anybody. He gave us a great game plan, and we didn't execute it to the level we needed to."
Bane acknowledged that while coaches often take the fall for poor results, the ultimate responsibility lies with the players on the court.
"A lot of times, coaches end up taking the fall, but ultimately, it's on the players," he added.
At the time of Jenkins' dismissal, Memphis had a solid record of 44-29, sitting in fifth place in the Western Conference.
Grizzlies' next game is on April 1st as they will match up against the Boston Celtics.
