Balcerowski is preferred as a stretch big contingent on finishing the deal with Tornike Shengelia.
Panathinaikos Athens have been one of the most active EuroLeague teams in the free agency market this offseason. The organization would like to add a few more players.
Tornike Shengelia reportedly has an agreement with PAO. The only obstacle that remains is his contract with Virtus Segafredo Bologna with both sides looking to terminate the deal.
According to Sotiris Vetakis from SDNA, Polish big man Aleksander Balcerowski has surfaced as a target in the organization. The interest is contingent on closing the deal with Shengelia, SDNA note.
If they want to sign Balcerowski, Panathinaikos will have to pay a steep buyout amount of €500,00 to Dreamland Gran Canaria.
In 22 games in the EuroCup last year, Balcerowski averaged 8.6 points and 3.8 rebounds for 10.6 PIR. His stats were similar in the Spanish Liga Endesa - 9.4 points and 3.3 rebounds for 10 PIR.
SDNA write that head coach Ergin Ataman has rejected the options from the NBA market as he doesn't want to coach players with no European experience.
According to Georgios Zakkas from SDNA, Shengelia has agreed to take the matter of terminating his deal with Virtus into his own hands, and Panathinaikos will not have to pay a buyout in order to get the Georgian forward.
