Mathias Lessort signed a two-year deal with Panathinaikos, joining Luca Vildoza as another Serbian powerhouse signing.
After announcing the arrival of Luca Vildoza on Monday, Panathinaikos Athens delivered yet another marquee signing by bringing in Mathias Lessort on a two-year contract, according to the official club's information.
The former Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade center was a force in the paint all season long and went on to lead the EuroLeague in rebounds (7.1 RPG) while placing second in average PIR (19.1).
Besides making the All-EuroLeague First Team, Lessort tied for the league lead with eight double-doubles and became one of just 10 players in the last decade to average more than 3 offensive rebounds per game.
He also registered 12.0 points, 1.4 assists, and 0.8 blocks over 38 EuroLeague games in 2022-23.
His ABA League numbers marked 10.1 points, 5.9 boards, and 15.7 PIR over 22 appearances.
The 27-year-old leaves Partizan as the ABA League champion, All-ABA League Team member, and Best Defender. He has had a two-year stint with the black-and-white team, creating an extraordinary bond with Partizan supporters while celebrating victories and even participating in fans' weddings as a best man.
In total, Lessort boasts four years of EuroLeague experience with Crvena Zvezda, Bayern, Maccabi, and Partizan.
Lessort follows Vildoza, Kostas Antetokounmpo, and Dimitris Moraitis, who have all joined Ergin Ataman's project at Panathinaikos this summer.
