San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich released an official statement on his health status, saying he won't return this season, but hopes to come back to coaching in the future.
San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich will not return to coach the team this season, according to earlier reports.
Popovich has remained out of the public eye since November, when he suffered a mild stroke. However, he recently addressed his team and released a public statement regarding his current health and his future with the organization.
"I've decide to not return to the sidelines this season," Popovich said in his announcement. "Mitch Johnson and his staff have done a wonderful job and the resolve and professionalism the players have shown, sticking together during a challenging season, has been outstanding."
"I will continue to focus on my health with the hope that I can return to coaching in the future," Popovich stated his will to return to the team next season.
The San Antonio Spurs are currently sitting 13th in the Western Conference, with a 24-33 record. They also will finish the season without Victor Wembanyama, who was diagnosed with a blood clot in his shoulder.
