San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich is not expected to return to the team this season, as he recovers from a mild stroke he suffered in November, per Shams Charania of ESPN.

Charania adds that Popovich's future with the team is uncertain, and he might not return to coaching. 39-year-old Mitch Johnson is Spurs current interim head coach, who has been an assistant coach for the Spurs since 2019.

Popovich is continuing to progress in his rehab from a human perspective, he's getting stronger. He's expected to address his situation on his further career with the Spurs when he's ready to do so.

At 75 years old, Popovich is a Hall of Famer who has been with the Spurs since 1996.

He holds the record for the most wins in NBA history and has led the team to five NBA championships. Additionally, he is a three-time NBA Coach of the Year.

Without coach Popovich, the Spurs are currently sitting twelfth in the West with a 24-30 record.

The Spurs also lost Victor Wembanyama for the rest of the season due to blood clot in his shoulder.
