The Charlotte Hornets are signing guard Elfrid Payton to a 10-day contract, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.
Payton, 30, returns to the NBA after a strong showing with the New Orleans Pelicans earlier this season, highlighted by a 14-point, 21-assist performance on Nov. 25. In seven games, he averaged 6.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 6.9 assists.
Last season, he played in the G League for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, where he put up 12.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, 9.8 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.
Payton's last full NBA season was in 2021-22 with the Phoenix Suns, appearing in 50 games and averaging 3.0 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists.
The guard has spent nine years in the NBA over his pro career.
