After recruiting household names in Mindaugas Kuzminskas and Jordan McRae, turning heads with the signing of Ben McLemore, and just one day after adding Langston Hall in the point guard position, AEK Athens have made another move that confirms they've set the bar high ahead of the new season.
The Greek club announced a one-year deal with Mfiondu Kabengele, 26 (2.08 m.), who's expected to be their starting big man in the 2023-24 campaign. Kabengele was selected with the No. 27 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft by the Clippers. During his NBA career, he played for the Clippers, the Cavaliers and the Celtics, having signed a two-way contract.
Being assigned G League duties with the Celtics' affiliate, the Maine Celtics, he averaged 18.6 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.4 blocks in 30 minutes of play and 40 games.
A product of Florida State, Kabengele has appeared in a total of 32 NBA games, averaging 2.5 points and 0.8 rebounds).
In the summer of 2021, the Congolese-born American center signed a contract with the Houston Rockets, joining the team's G-League affiliate and later winning the title after producing 17.5 points, and 9.8 rebounds per contest.
