After more than a decade of professional basketball in Europe, Sasha Vezenkov is moving to the NBA.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski from ESPN, the Bulgarian forward has signed a three-year $20 million deal with the Sacramento Kings.
Vezenkov spent the last five seasons with Olympiacos Piraeus, becoming a EuroLeague MVP in 2023. He's been selected to the All-EuroLeague First Team in the last two years.
Vezenkov's contract with Olympiacos includes a $1.5 million NBA buyout clause. However, the Kings will be able to pay only $750,000 of the total amount due to the league's regulations. The rest of the sum will have to be covered by the player himself.
The forward averaged 17.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists for 21.5 PIR in the EuroLeague. According to SDNA, the third year in the contract is an option.
Vezenkov will become the second Bulgarian player to play in the NBA after Georgi Glouchkov. If Vezenkov decides to return to Europe after a stint in the NBA, Olympiacos will not hold his rights and the forward will be free to negotiate with any team, Konstantinos Melayes from Gazzetta.gr notes.
The Kings now have 11 players on their roster with guaranteed contracts, while the two rookies selected in the draft, Colby Jones and Jalen Slawson, can sign a contract with the Kings later.
