Stefano Tonut has left Umana Reyer Venezia and is expected to sign with his new team, AX Armani Exchange Milan, at the beginning of July.
The players is currently in Trieste with the Italian national team. On Saturday, Gianmarco Pozzecco will make his debut on the team's bench against Slovenia, before Italy take on the Netherlands on July 4, for the World Cup qualifiers.
According to the latest info, Stefano Tonut could join Armani Milan once he's finished with Italy. The EuroLeague team has already paid a sum of 200,000 euros, accodring to the EuroLeague escape clause on the Italian international's contract.
On Friday evening, Tonut bid farewell to Umana Reyer Venezia with an Instagram post.
"Along this path I have met so many fantastic people, and not seeing them so frequently will make me feel strange," the 28-year-old shooting guard wrote.
"But in saying goodbye I want to say first of all that it would not be right to remember only the championships, the cups and the thousand challenges we have won together in these 7 years. Today I want to remember that we did all this together: club, team and fans, we were one thing."
Tonut registered 9.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 10.2 PIR in 17 EuroCup duels this year. He won two Italian League championships with Venezia (2017, 2019).
He was also an important piece for the Italian national team in Tokyo Olympics. Over 4 contests (26.6 minutes), he averaged 10.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 9.8 PIR. Italy was eliminated in the quarterfinals stage by France.
