Detroit Pistons legend and Hall of Famer Joe Dumars is a leading candidate to become the head basketball executive for the New Orleans Pelicans, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.
The 2003 NBA Executive of the Year and 2004 championship architect with the Pistons is a Louisiana native, the same state as the Pelicans.
According to ESPN's sources, the Pelicans and Dumars are expected to begin discussions aimed at finalizing a deal by the end of the week.
Dumars is currently the head of NBA basketball operations. Prior to this role, he served as president of basketball operations for the Pistons from 2000 to 2014. In 2019, he was named special advisor to the general manager of the Sacramento Kings.
