Phoenix Suns have fired head coach Mike Budenholzer after disappointing season.
The Phoenix Suns have fired head coach Mike Budenholzer after just one season, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.
The Suns have issued the following statement on Mike Budenholzer's dismissal:
"Competing at the highest level remains our goal and we failed to meet expectations this season. Our fans deserve better. Change is needed."
The move comes after a highly disappointing campaign in which the Suns finished 11th in the Western Conference with a 36–46 record, missing the playoffs entirely.
Expectations were sky-high for Phoenix, which carried the NBA's highest payroll this season—making the underperformance even more glaring.
This marks the Suns’ third coaching change in as many years under owner Mat Ishbia, reflecting continued instability within the organization.
Despite the setback, Budenholzer’s championship pedigree and extensive experience will undoubtedly make him one of the Top Available NBA coaches in 2025.
