Davis, who recently came back from injury, has made an immediate impact, with the Mavericks going 4-0 in games he has played this season.
AD chose to step back onto the court to give Dallas a boost in their postseason chase. Gafford, who has been dealing with his own injury, took notice of Davis' commitment.
"First off, it's just the love of the game, for sure," Gafford said in an interview after the Mavericks’ shootaround on Monday morning. "And to be able to just want to be able to come back and just make an impact for the team, that says a lot about him because he wants to be out there helping the team as much as he can."
While recovering, Gafford has observed Davis’ performances closely and is impressed with the All-Star big man’s play.
"I mean, He's picking up from where he left off," Gafford said. "Taking another step into that leadership role, for sure. I'm pretty sure he's been up and down when it comes to the minutes restriction."
"It (Davis' leadership) just shows how he carries himself, his demeanor, and just how much gravity he kind of pulls towards him while he's on the floor. Just makes the job easier for everybody else out there."
In those 4 games, Davis played with the Mavericks, he averaged 17.8 points, 9 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game while also achieving 1.5 blocks per game.
