Stephon Castle, the San Antonio Spurs rookie, has been on a scoring tear recently, with back-to-back performances of 22, 24, and 32 points. However, he emphasized that winning games is his main focus.
Stephon Castle’s recent performances have shown that he’s finding his rhythm as a scorer for the San Antonio Spurs, but he’s quick to remind everyone that winning is his top priority.
In his last few games, the rookie guard has been on fire, scoring 22, 24, and 32 points, with the latter just one shy of his career high of 33 set earlier in the season.
However, despite his scoring success, Castle was clear about his perspective after the loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
"The scoring stuff is cool, but we still want to win, so it doesn’t really mean that much to me, honestly," Castle said after the game.
Spurs’ teammate De'Aaron Fox, who has seen Castle’s growth, acknowledged the rookie’s talent, especially his athleticism and length.
"The way that he plays – he's still learning the game, but he's so talented, he's so athletic. I tell people all the time, if you get length, you get athleticism, you go figure it out," Fox said following the loss to OKC.
In his first year in the NBA, the 20-year-old averages 13.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.5 assists while shooting 41.9% from the field.
