Zion Williamson's weight, and the potential for weight loss, have been a frequent topic of NBA fans.

This article tracks Zion's weight fluctuations throughout his career, using only official data and trusted sources.

Zion Williamson's weight in 2025

On February 24, 2025, ESPN writer Michael C. Wright reported that Zion Williamson's current weight is 264 pounds (120 kg).

If that's the case, it's a welcome turnaround for Zion, who has had weight issues since his rookie season. In 2021, multiple reports, including a snippet on Zach Lowe's podcast, mentioned that Zion weighed as much as 330 lbs (150 kg).

Interestingly, Zion Williamson's current contract includes a weight clause stating that if his weight and body fat percentage exceed 295 pounds, the amount of guaranteed money in his contract can be reduced.

264 pounds is Williamson's lightest weight since the Pelicans drafted him.

Should his official weight of 284 pounds (129 kg) be used, he'd be tied for third heaviest player in the NBA right now.

Zion's weight during his rookie year

Entering the 2019 NBA Draft, Zion Williamson had cut his weight slightly, weighing 280 lbs (127 kg). He declared that his goal before the season started was to lose a few more kilos and weigh around 271 lbs (123 kg) during the season opener.

Officially, Zion was listed at 284 lbs (129 kg) at the start of the season, but according to some sources, he gained significant weight during the season. In February 2020, Bill Simmons revealed that Williamson played while weighing over 300 lbs (136 kg).

Weight concerns were present as he missed many games during his rookie season, and as time passed, Zion continued to struggle with his weight.

Williamson's weight at high school

It's hard to believe now, but Zion Williamson wasn't always as big. As he stated a few years ago, he looked very different in the past. His height and weight at the start of high school were far from the numbers recorded when he left for Duke.

"Freshman year, I was small. I was 6'3" (192 cm) tall and weighed 174 lbs (79 kg)," Williamson stated.

"Over the course of about two years, I picked up 99 lbs (45 kg). I mean, I wouldn't look at myself and go, 'Wow, I weigh 249 lbs (113 kg).' I wouldn't know that I weigh 249 lbs (113 kg) until I stepped on the scale, and then I'm like, 'Oh, I weigh 249 lbs (113 kg), I don't feel slow,'" Zion claimed about his progress from freshman to junior year in high school.

Williamson asserted that his weight gain actually enhanced his athleticism and versatility as a player. However, he also experienced another significant weight increase in the two years leading up to his enrollment at Duke.

Zion Williamson's weight in college

Zion Williamson grew another 5 inches (12 cm) and reached a height of 6'8" (204 cm). He also gained additional weight before enrolling at Duke, starting his college career at 284 lbs (129 kg).

To put this into perspective, if Williamson had entered the NBA that season, he would have been the second heaviest player, behind Boban Marjanovic. Marjanovic, standing at 7'4" (222 cm) – 8 inches (20 cm) taller – weighed 288 lbs (131 kg), only 4 lbs (2 kg) more.

Even so, legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski wasn't worried at all, stating his reasons:

"At that weight or approximately that weight, he moves as fast as anybody, jumps higher than anybody, and he's alert."

"We're not talking about someone who has excess body fat. This is a kid that's in pretty darn good shape and just has a man's mass. It's more mass and strength than any type of excess weight. I'm not concerned about that. He's done really well."
