Vincent Collet has stepped down as head coach of the French national basketball team after 15 years. Under his leadership, France achieved significant success, including two Olympic silver medals.
Vincent Collet is concluding his tenure as the head coach of the French national basketball team after a distinguished 15-year run.
According to reports by BeBasket’s Gabriel Pantel-Jouve and confirmed by L’Equipe, Collet, 61, will no longer lead the French team following the 2024 Paris Olympics. His departure marks the end of an era for French basketball, which has seen considerable success under his guidance.
During Collet’s tenure, the French national team enjoyed notable achievements on the international stage.
Collet led France to two Olympic silver medals (Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024), two World Cup bronze medals (Spain 2014 and China 2019), and four EuroBasket medals, including a gold medal at Slovenia 2013.
Following the Paris 2024 final, Collet expressed his satisfaction with his career and confirmed his decision to step down.
“I’m done. These fifteen years have been a great privilege for me, I have had the chance to experience emotions like those of this evening, and to win medals with this French team, to be European champion in 2013, twice in the Olympic final to finish. I am happy with all that.” he said.
As France begins the transition to a new head coach, Frederic Fauthoux, 51, is considered the leading candidate to succeed Collet.
Additionally, Kenny Atkinson, currently the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers and a member of France’s coaching staff at the Olympics, has also been mentioned as a potential replacement.
