Joel Embiid said he decided to play for Team USA in the Paris Olympics because he built a family in the US and spent half of his life there.
Joel Embiid is about to make his official Team USA and Olympics debut, but before that, the Philadelphia 76ers center enjoyed the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony.
"It was good. I've dreamt of this since I was a little kid. It's been a good experience," Embiid told NBC.
Embiid was also asked about the timing and decision to represent Team USA in the Paris Olympics.
"I built a lot in America, having a family and being here half of my life," Embiid noted. It just made a lot of sense, and then obviously, this group of guys. I've known them for a long time and feel extremely comfortable. Like I said, the timing was just right."
Team USA will play its opening game against Serbia on July 28 at 11:15 a.m. ET (5:15 p.m. CET).
