Two outcomes had to go right for South Sudan to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. They have now achieved the biggest win in the country's basketball history. South Sudan easily defeated Angola in their last game of the 2023 FIBA World Cup, winning by 23 points.

Saturday will be a big day for the African teams in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 as five teams continue to battle for one direct ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics. So far, South Sudan (2-2) and Egypt (2-2) have the best odds of becoming the best African team in the competition, but currently, all five teams remain in contention because all of them could end up with a 2-3 record.
2023-08-31
The Serbian national team lost a player from the rotation Wednesday night after the game against South Sudan, as Borisa Simanic will not continue playing in the 2023 FIBA World Cup. The player who injured the Serbian forward has now responded to the news.
2023-08-31
South Sudan prevailed in the Classification Round game against the Philippines, winning with the final score of 87-68 (34-17, 17-16, 9-17, 27-18) Carlik Jones was the absolute hero of the night for South Sudan. The point guard finished the game with a near triple-double: 17 points, 14 assists, and 9 rebounds, just one rebound shy of a triple-double.
2023-08-28
After going scoreless in his FIBA World Cup debut for China, Kyle Anderson, also known as Li Kaier, bounced back in the second game against South Sudan. However, his efforts were not enough to secure the win against the World Cup debutants, 69-89.
2023-08-10
With several weeks left until their very first FIBA World Cup appearance, South Sudan announced their 18-man extended roster. Leading the squad is Los Angeles Lakers forward Wenyen Gabriel. He is joined by former NBA guard Maryal Shayok, who spent the last season in the G-League playing for the Maine Celtics after representing Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul in the EuroLeague the year before.
