Australia's Dante Exum will miss the first Paris 2024 Olympics game against Spain due to a finger injury.
Australia is ruling out guard Dante Exum for their first game against Spain in the Paris 2024 Olympics, according to Kane Pitman of ESPN.
Per the same report, the Boomers are not willing to rule him out beyond the first match and are not making any decisions after that.
Exum, 29, dislocated his finger during a recent friendly against France. Initially, there were concerns that he might have to be replaced for the Olympics, but he was later cleared to compete in Paris.
"[Exum] suffered a compound dislocation of the right index finger in the game," the Australian national team director Anna Meares told The Herald Sun. "X-rays have confirmed that there was no fracture, and he is expected to continue on the path to compete at the Games."
Exum had a solid season with the Dallas Mavericks, averaging 7.8 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game in 55 regular-season appearances. The Mavericks reached the NBA Finals but lost to the Boston Celtics.
A long-time member of the Boomers, Exum won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, where he averaged 9.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game.
Australia is set to compete in Group A in the Paris Olympics alongside Greece, Canada, and Spain. Their first game against Spain is on July 27th at 11 CEST.
