While preparing for the upcoming EuroLeague season, AS Monaco announced a new addition to the roster.
According to the club's official statement, the Monegasque team has signed French young talent Yoan Makoundou to a four-year contract.
"I think it was a big milestone for me, to show that I was ready to perform in this kind of team with very high expectations," the player explained following the signing. "It's a good way for me to progress. I found that Sasa Obradovic's plan for me was really coherent after all these years spent in Cholet."
Makoundou spent the last two years on the Cholet Basket team in France. The young 2.07-meter big man averaged 10.2 points and 5.4 rebounds for 12.5 PIR in the French Basketball League (LNB) this past regular season. His averages in the playoffs went up to 13.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 15.3 PIR.
His most successful match last season was against his future club, AS Monaco. On May 17th, Makoundou registered 27 points and 7 rebounds for 25 PIR in a win against the EuroLeague team.
After averaging 10.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per game in the 2020–21 Basketball Champions League, he was named the Champions League Best Young Player. Makoundou committed to the NBA Draft this year but was not drafted.
