Vassilis Spanoulis talked about his infamous transfer to Olympiacos for Skweek's Best in Class podcast, also making a difference from player and coach perspective of the game.
Vassilis Spanoulis is enjoying his time as head coach of Monaco Basket as they clinched 4th seed in the Euroleague this season.
Spanoulis was the guest on First in Class podcast by Skweek, where he talked about numerous topics.
Spanoulis talked about his infamous transfer to Olympiacos Piraeus and how it was his fate:
"My fate was to go to Olympiacos. It was time for me to lead a team to be the best in Greece and Europe. I wanted to take it to the top, it was my dream," Spanoulis noted.
"I didn't have a chance like that in Panathinaikos because I was one of the best players in the team, but we had a lot of stars, amazing players."
"People from Olympiacos approached me in the right manner and described their plans. I liked what I heard, I was motivated, and it was a big challenge for me."
Spanoulis also compared the perspective of the sport as a player and as a coach:
"When you play, you have the ball and you decide the match. When you are coaching, you need to inspire and prepare players to make a decision," Spanoulis said.
"It's important for me that we have good chemistry and right players in the team because they are stars, not the coaches. We just work on chemistry, discipline, roles and psychology. But I'm not shooting, nor am I making decisions."
