Tatum landed awkwardly on Domantas Sabonis' foot and did not return, later being diagnosed with an ankle sprain, according to the Celtics, via ClutchPoints.
Before exiting, Tatum put up an impressive stat line, scoring 25 points, dishing out 8 assists, and grabbing 7 rebounds in just 26 minutes of action.
Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla expressed optimism about Tatum's status and praised the officials for making the correct call.
"He seems to be doing OK," Mazzulla said. "I didn't see the play but they made the right call. Fortunate that he was able to shoot the free throws. (He's) taking care of it right now."
"I literally just asked him how he was doing and he said, 'OK,' He'll do anything and everything to make sure he gets better," the coach added.
Tatum left the arena tonight with no crutches or boot, and just a very slight limp, according to Adam Himmelsbach.
The All-Star forward has been a key piece for the Celtics this season, averaging 27.2 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game.
DeMar DeRozan and Sabonis put up double-doubles for the Kings, DeRozan with a team-high 20 points and a game-high 10 assists, Sabonis with 16 points and a game-high 17 rebounds.
Despite Tatum’s early exit, Boston secured a win over Sacramento, improving to a 53-19 record. The Celtics are now sitting second in the Eastern Conference, trailing only the Cleveland Cavaliers.
