"Lakers not calling me," he told TMZ Sports. "I don't think it's happening. Jeanie [Buss], call me, but I'm not signing with the team."

The 39-year-old center had hinted at interest in rejoining the LA Lakers on social media after the Luka Doncic trade, but he quickly shut down the idea, saying he's content spending time at home with his children.

"I'm always ready," he admitted. "But there's more to life than basketball."

Howard last played professionally for Taiwan's Taoyuan Leopards in the 2022-23 season. Over his career, he had three stints with the Lakers (2012-13, 2019-20, 2021-22) and played a key role in their 2020 championship run.

Still, he believes the current Lakers squad is a real contender.

"Yeah, they got a real shot [at NBA title]," he told TMZ.

The eight-time All-Star appeared in 1,242 NBA games over 18 seasons, averaging 15.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.8 blocks per game. During the Lakers' 2020 championship playoff run, he posted 5.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.

The Lakers recently signed center Alex Len in free agency after their trade for Mark Williams was rescinded, but Len has yet to prove himself as a reliable rotation player.
