Golden State Warriors star Jimmy Butler asked to be traded from the Miami Heat because he felt the Heat were moving in a direction without him in mind and he wanted to be more valued.
The Golden State Warriors have acquired star forward Jimmy Butler, officially ending his turbulent tenure with the Miami Heat.
According to NBA insider Marc Spears, Butler requested a trade from the Heat after feeling that the team was moving in a direction that didn’t include him. He expressed a desire to be more valued and involved in the organization’s plans moving forward.
Butler's relationship with Miami had soured this season, as the Heat suspended him three times, twice for conduct detrimental to the team and once for missing a flight.
The last suspension was indefinite after he left a shootaround on January 27, upon learning he would be benched for an upcoming game. As a result, Butler’s final game with Miami came on January 21, before he made his debut with the Warriors on February 8.
Since joining Golden State, Butler has flourished. The Warriors have been nearly unstoppable, losing only once in the 14 games following his arrival. With a 38-28 record, they’ve surged to the sixth seed in the Western Conference and are quickly emerging as a sneaky contender this season.
