Herro's victory marks a monumental achievement for both the player and the franchise, as he becomes just the fifth Heat player to win the contest, joining a notable list that includes Glen Rice (1995), Jason Kapono (2007 and 2008), Daequan Cook (2009), and James Jones, the last Heat player to win in 2011.
Herro triumphed with a score of 24 in the final round, narrowly edging out Buddy Hield, who scored 23. The contest win came after Damian Lillard was eliminated in the second round, opening the door for Herro to shine.
This victory adds a significant milestone to Herro’s career, as he has now firmly established himself as one of the NBA’s top sharpshooters.
While the Heat have dealt with trade rumors and locker room drama, most notably surrounding star Jimmy Butler, Herro’s consistency on the court has been a steadying force for the team.
Herro has been a standout player this season, averaging career-highs of 23.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game. His efficiency has also been on display, with 46.5% shooting from the field, 38% from beyond the arc, and 85.4% from the free-throw line.
Currently, the Heat find themselves in 9th place in the Eastern Conference with a 25-28 record, just three games behind the Detroit Pistons for the 6th seed.
