Neptunas Klaipeda are preparing for changes in the head coach position.

The defeat to Nevezis seems to have been the last straw for the club's management which is preparing to part ways with head coach Giorgos Vovoras, according to BasketNews' Lukas Malinauskas.

The club has begun searching for a new coach, and the separation is planned after the King Mindaugas Cup (KMT) tournament.

Neptunas will face Vilnius Wolves in the tournament semi-finals on Saturday in Vilnius. It is doubtful whether reaching the tournament final would change the club's intention regarding Vovoras.

Eliminating Rytas Vilnius and returning to the final stage after four years has somewhat strengthened the Greek coach's position after a series of poor results in the LKL, but the loss to Nevezys was the final blow.

Neptunas started the LKL with flying colors, winning their first four games, including against the champions Rytas.

Since October 12, they've won just 3 of their 14 games in the LKL, dropping to seventh place with a 7-11 record.

The club participated in the FIBA Europe Cup qualifiers at the end of September, but lost to Bilbao Basket by a combined 44-point margin in two games (125-169).

Vovoras arrived in Klaipėda in February 2024, replacing Mindaugas Brazis.

Neptunas finished sixth in the LKL last season, losing 1-2 to Wolves in the quarterfinals.
