Charlotte Hornets are exploring options to challenge the Los Angeles Lakers' failed physical assessment of Mark Williams, which led to the cancellation of a trade that would have sent him to Los Angeles for rookie Dalton Knecht and other considerations.
The Charlotte Hornets are in discussions with the NBA as they explore options to challenge the Los Angeles Lakers' recent failed physical assessment of center Mark Williams, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.
The trade involving Williams and rookie Dalton Knecht was nixed on Saturday, prompting the Hornets to consider ways to dispute the decision.
The Lakers reportedly raised concerns about multiple health issues with Williams, but these problems were not related to his back.
Prior to the trade, Lakers GM Rob Pelinka had given the deal a green light without any concerns.
The proposed trade would have sent Knecht, Cam Reddish, and draft considerations to Charlotte in exchange for the 23-year-old Williams, a former first-round pick in his third NBA season.
The deal also included a first-round pick in 2031 and a 2030 first-round pick swap going to the Hornets.
Williams has faced injury challenges throughout his career, appearing in just 85 of a possible 215 games due to back problems and other ailments.
This season, he has averaged 15.6 points and 9.6 rebounds per game over 23 appearances.
