Chima Moneke's deal with Baskonia expires in the summer of 2025. Until then, the Nigerian forward will be playing with his current club.
During this past summer, Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz forward Chima Moneke dispersed the transfer rumors about him moving to other EuroLeague teams.
The Nigerian big man declared his full commitment to his current team ahead of the 2025-25 season, whiel also confirming that he was never close to leaving Baskonia.
"What disappointed me the most was when people began telling me personal things about myself that were not true. It really made me angry. I knew I wasn't going anywhere and that I would be returning," he explained in an interview with Noticias de Alava.
While hosting his Triple Threat Show podcast on Amerikanos24, Moneke was asked about his intentions regarding the 2024-25 season that's already underway.
"I have a contract, and the contract ends next summer," he reminded everyone.
"I would have to sign another contract with another team, after they pay for my buyout. And I'm not signing another contract. I'm finishing my contract with Baskonia," Moneke clarified.
"It's unfortunate that things have happened this way, but I'm not going anywhere -- people like it or not. I'll be a free agent in the summer and we'll go from there. But I'm honoring my contract," the 28-year-old argued.
Moneke is averaging 14.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 18.8 in PIR, while shooting 27.8% from 3-point distance with Baskonia in the EuroLeague. Last season, he averaged 15.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game.
