The NBA announced that VanVleet has been issued a $50,000 fine "for confronting and directing profane language toward the officiating staff." Although Rockets fans feared the guard might be suspended, VanVleet will be able to play without any restrictions.
With 10 seconds remaining on the game clock, the Rockets were down by three and had the possession. VanVleet tried to draw a foul while shooting a three-pointer but didn't receive the call.
After a conversation with one of the referees, VanVleet continued complaining about the episode and was ultimately ejected after receiving his second technical foul. As he was leaving the court, VanVleet poked one of the referees in the face.
The Rockets lost the game 98-104.
VanVleet has started in all 17 Rockets games this season, averaging 14.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game.
