AS Monaco is interested in Vassilis Spanoulis taking over as head coach, but nothing has been agreed upon yet, BasketNews sources confirmed.

Monaco has made initial contact with Spanoulis' agent, expressing interest in the 42-year-old Greek legend stepping in to replace Sasa Obradovic.

Monaco is highly enthusiastic about the idea of Spanoulis taking over, but no advanced talks or formal agreements have taken place, as the coach is focused on his responsibilities with the Greek national team during this week's FIBA window.

Greece, with a 2-0 record in the EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers Group F, will face Great Britain in London on Thursday and host them in Thessaloniki on Sunday.

Spanoulis may not have prior EuroLeague coaching experience, but his wealth of knowledge is unquestionable. A three-time EuroLeague champion and three-time Final Four MVP, he brings an impressive pedigree to the table.

At just 42, Spanoulis is emerging as one of the most intriguing new faces in the coaching business. He has already crafted a solid resume during his two seasons with Peristeri Athens and his first stint with the Greek national team.

He led Hellas to a victory in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament and reached the quarterfinals, where they were eliminated by World Cup winners Germany.

Known as a basketball geek, Spanoulis is in love with details and understands the players' perspective, which makes him tuned to what athletes need from their head coach.

When contemplating a coaching change, he represents a compelling long-term project worth considering for any EuroLeague team of any level.
