According to Jacob Feldman from Sportico, the Boston Celtics superstar forward is willing to invest in an upcoming WNBA expansion team in St Louis. As such, he would become the first active NBA player to own a share in a WNBA organization.

There is no clear structure set for the bid at the moment, but it will most likely be led by billionaires Richard Chaifetz and David Hoffman.

While the WNBA currently features 12 teams, three more franchises will be added in the next two years. First, the Golden State Valkyries will join the league in 2025. Then,  two teams from Toronto and Portland will debut in 2026.

WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert has said that the league would be willing to add another team by 2028. St Louis is currently among more than a dozen candidates.

Women's basketball saw a rapid increase in attendance and viewership in the last season. Coupled with two superstars - Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese - blossoming in popularity, the WNBA is now the most popular as it's ever been.
