Ausar Thompson will return to action after dealing with a serious blod clot problem that kept him sidelined for a significant part of the 2023-24 campaign and the first 11 games of the ongoing season.
Ausar Thompson saw his rookie year coming to an abrupt end last season due to a blood clot he sustained in March.
His condition kept the former OverTime Elite prospect sidelined throughout the first 11 games of the 2024-25 season. however, the Detroit Pistons forward has been cleared to play by the NBA’s fitness-to-play panel, according to a report from ESPN's Shams Charania.
The panel consists of three physicians: one chosen by the NBA, one chosen by the league's player's association and one approved by both groups.
The Pistons drafted Thompson, 21, out of the Overtime Elite developmental program with the 5th overall pick last year. In 68 games, he averaged 8.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.9 blocks per game while shooting 49.4% from the field, 22.6% from distance and 62.9% from the free-throw line.
Through the first 11 games of the season the Pistons are 4-7 and host the Miami Heat at Little Caesars Arena on Tuesday for their first game of the 2024 NBA Cup.
