The US Immigration and Customs Services officially announced that the Chicago Bulls center has become a US citizen. As such, his Montenegrin citizenship might be revoked, Vijesti reports.
Montenegro's Ministry of Interior said in a written reply to Vijesti that Vucevic will not be exempt from the rules.
"For all persons who are found to have voluntarily acquired, in addition to Montenegrin citizenship, the citizenship of another country after June 3, 2006, pursuant to Article 24 Paragraph 4 of the Law on Montenegrin Citizenship, the Ministry of Justice will ex officio initiate the procedure for the loss of Montenegrin citizenship," the reply reads.
"The criteria for starting the procedure for the loss of Montenegrin citizenship by force of law is the same for all persons, regardless of their occupation," the Ministry of Interior wrote.
Vucevic has been playing in the NBA since 2011 when he was 21 years old. Now at 34, he's spent more than a third of his life in the United States.
