Starting with the 2024-25 season, EuroLeague players can leave teams almost up until the New Year to be eligible to play for other EuroLeague clubs immediately. Previously, players could start playing for a new EuroLeague team only after the New Year.

With Jordan Loyd leaving Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv, a chance opens up for the guard to play for another EuroLeague club almost immediately. All that is due to a change in the league's regulations.

Namely, the EuroLeague used to have a specific deadline when players who leave EuroLeague teams can start playing for other EuroLeague squads. Last season, the deadline, for example, was December 30th.

With the new player registration deadline set in early February, there used to be a frenzy among the EuroLeague teams, hustling to make deals in the brief period of a month.

The rule has been changed in the 2024-25 season, allowing EuroLeague players more freedom to move between the teams.

The start date deadline has been removed. Instead, a new date, December 25th, has been established - the last day when players can be deregistered from a EuroLeague roster to be eligible to play for another EuroLeague team.

As such, players can leave EuroLeague teams almost until the New Year and still be eligible to play for another club in the competition immediately, not needing to wait until a set date to play in the EuroLeague again.

With Loyd leaving Maccabi, he will be able to represent his new team, if signed in time, as soon as Round 3 in the first double week of the season.
