After coaching France for 15 years, Vincent Collet will continue his career as a special advisor at Les Bleus.
Vincent Collet has concluded his tenure as the head coach of the French national basketball team, having led Les Bleus to two Olympic silver medals (Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024), two World Cup bronze medals (Spain 2014 and China 2019), and four EuroBasket medals, including a gold medal at Slovenia 2013.
Having taken the helm of the French national team in 2009 after several years as an assistant, Collet became the most victorious coach of the national team with 179 victories in 253 matches.
Collet, 61, will join the national technical directorate as a special advisor, the French Basketball Federation (FFBB) announced. Collet will notably have the mission of transmitting "expertise on the training of players and coaches", explains Alain Contensoux, national technical director, as well as "reflecting on the technical projects of our structures, whether federal projects or on the hope structures."
"I am happy and proud to be entrusted with a mission like that," the veteran tactician said. Collet has not ruled out taking up a coaching job in the future after guiding Le Mans, ASVEL, Strasbourg and the Metropolitans 92.
"I could not be the coach of a team that would face France," he admitted. "I would find it difficult to get used to this idea. It's a little more than a page being turned," Collet stated.
