The LNB has issued a press release, announcing that Monaco was given a €20,000 fine and a loss of a victory for breaching two articles of the league's regulations. Additionally, one victory has been suspended.
The two articles refer to salaries and how players can be paid in the league, as well as the payroll tax that was instituted last year. According to AFP, the case is related to Mike James' newest contract extension.
Namely, James' deal included a payment in image rights to FedCom Media, which was not communicated to the league, AFP writes. LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne was sanctioned for similar misconduct in March 2023.
Monaco might appeal the decision, BeBasket note. In ASVEL's case, the punishment was reduced to one win instead of the initial two.
