Panathinaikos are now actively pursuing Omer Yurtseven after the New York Knicks chose not to sign him. The Greek club has extended an official offer, and there's optimism the player will join the team.
A week after news broke out that he was offered as an option for the club, Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens are making concrete steps to land Omer Yurtseven.
Panathinaikos' head coach Ergin Ataman mentioned earlier in August that Yurtseven's name was among those the club was monitoring for the upgrade of the center position.
According to SDNA, Ataman gave the club's owner, Dimitris Giannakopoulos, the green light to pursue the player. As such, an official offer has been extended to the player, and there's optimism the player will join the organization.
NBA insider Marc Stein reports that the New York Knicks auditioned Yurtseven but chose not to sign him, seemingly leaving the player open for a return to Europe.
Yurtseven averaged 4.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game for the Utah Jazz last season. Yurtseven had signed a two-year deal with the Jazz in 2023, but the second year of the contract was non-guaranteed, and the player is now a free agent after getting waived.
Before playing for the Jazz, Yurtseven represented the Miami Heat, averaging 5.2 points and 4.9 rebounds in the two season with the club.
