"I would like to thank you for your trust, and I am very excited to have the opportunity to be the head coach of one of the best national teams in the world," Mumbru said. "My greatest wish is to help German basketball and quickly become a part of the German basketball family."

The 45-year-old Spaniard succeeds Gordon Herbert in the role.

Mumbru's first official game as head coach is scheduled for November 22, when Germany faces Sweden in the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers. So far in the competition, Germany has secured a win against Montenegro and lost to Bulgaria.

Mumbru began his coaching career in 2018, right after retiring as a player with Bilbao Basket. He quickly transitioned to the sidelines, taking charge of the Bilbao team, where he consistently exceeded expectations.

He stayed with the club until 2022, when he signed with Valencia Basket. However, his tenure at Valencia ended in April this year, before the conclusion of his second season.
