Former NBA player Royce White won the Minnesota Republican Senate primary and will face incumbent Amy Klobuchar in the upcoming November election.
Former NBA player Royce White won the Republican U.S. Senate primary in Minnesota on Tuesday, defeating Joe Fraser. White will now challenge incumbent Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar in the upcoming November election.
At 33 years old, White previously ran in the 2022 GOP primary for a U.S. House seat but did not win.
Drafted by the Houston Rockets in the first round of the 2012 NBA Draft, the forward never played for Houston due to his mental health struggles and refusal to fly to away games.
His NBA career was brief, with only three games played for the Sacramento Kings in March 2014, in which he did not score, record any assists, or rebound.
White faces a tough battle against Klobuchar, who has served in the Senate since 2007.
White generated controversy last year with remarks about women becoming "too mouthy" during an interview on Steve Bannon's "War Room" show.
