In their opening game of the Paris 2024 Olympics, Team USA delivered a dominant second-half performance, resulting in a 110-84 victory over Serbia. The first half was competitive, with the Americans holding a narrow nine-point lead at 58-49, but they pulled away decisively in the second half.
Team USA's victory featured contributions from multiple players. Kevin Durant led the scoring with 23 points, followed by LeBron James with 21, Jrue Holiday with 15, and Devin Booker with 12. Stephen Curry and Anthony Edwards each added 11 points.
South Sudan, meanwhile, celebrated a historic first victory in Olympic basketball by defeating Puerto Rico 90-79. Carlik Jones was the standout performer, scoring a team-high 19 points, along with seven rebounds and six assists in nearly 37 minutes of play.
These two teams previously met on July 20 in a pre-Olympic exhibition game in Abu Dhabi, UAE, where the Americans narrowly edged out South Sudan 101-100.
Team USA had to overcome a 16-point deficit, with LeBron scoring the game-winning layup. James finished that game with 23 points, six rebounds, and six assists, while Carlik Jones recorded the first-ever triple-double against Team USA with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists.
