Sasa Obradovic on a modest reception back home: "When I see how it was after Rytas Vilnius' title in Lithuania, 10 old men welcomed us here in our village."
AS Monaco secured their second consecutive French League title on Wednesday night, winning a decisive 3-1 series victory over Paris Basketball.
The 115-76 scoreline in their final win was impressive, but the celebrations that followed stole the show. Coach Sasa Obradovic even ended up getting thrown into the jacuzzi, in a video that went viral on social media.
"Someone always gets hurt in those celebrations, although I didn't really have to," Obradovic told Bojan Brezovac of Mozzart Sport. "When they caught me, I freaked out. I was just thinking, 'Now, they're going to pour some ice water on me,' and I really don't like that.
"When I got into the hot jacuzzi, I was relieved. But then I thought: 'Ouch, the shoes are expensive.' Still, it doesn't matter. We all deserve to celebrate."
Although Monaco won the domestic league once again, the team was not given a big reception by local people, but that's not surprising since Monaco has a population of just more than 38 thousand people.
Asked whether there was a big reception on Thursday, to which Obradovic responded with a joke.
"When I see how it was after Rytas Vilnius' title in Lithuania, 10 old men welcomed us here in our village," Obradovic said with a smile. "But they are phenomenal people. Passionate. And when I say village... Well, it's the most beautiful and luxurious village in the world. I wouldn't change it, neither the people in the country, nor the people in the management, no one in the team."
