Roger Grimau is not expected to continue as Barcelona's first-team head coach.
The changes at FC Barcelona continue, as head coach Roger Grimau is not expected to remain with the first team.
Jose Ignacio Huguet from Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona made a decision that Grimau will not continue his head coaching duties.
The 45-year-old Grimau took over Barcelona before the 2023-24 season after signing a 2-year deal. However, the Spanish powerhouse finished the season trophyless for the first time since the 2016-17 campaign.
Before Grimau, Sarunas Jasikevicius was in charge of Barcelona for three years, guiding the Catalan club to the EuroLeague Final Four in all three seasons. Barca also won two ACB titles and two Spanish Copa del Rey trophies during the Lithuanian's stint.
"I've always had it [the club's support], I've always felt it. I'm not an idiot, the season hasn't been good," Grimau said after the loss against Real Madrid that eliminated Barca. "And, from here on, we'll see what happens. But from day one, I've always felt supported by the people around me."
"Could we have done better? Of course, we could have. I am the coach, and I am responsible. Things could be done better, and I could manage better, obviously. In the end, we lost," he added.
Huguet also reports that Xavi Pascual, Jaka Lakovic, and Sergio Scariolo are seen as the main candidates to replace Grimau.
However, even though Pascual is seen as the favorite inside the club, Barcelona's financial difficulties might prevent the club from signing him.
