Detroit Pistons waive guard R.J. Hampton after a 21-game stint.
The Detroit Pistons have officially announced their decision to release guard R.J. Hampton from the team.
The news broke on Saturday, revealing that the 6-foot-4 guard had been waived.
Throughout his time with the Pistons, Hampton played in 21 games, starting in three of them, and averaged 7.3 points per game while shooting 42% from the field. Additionally, he contributed 2.3 assists and 1.0 steals per game.
Hampton exploded in a game against the Brooklyn Nets on April 5th, where he delivered 27 points, five rebounds, and five three-pointers.
Hampton's NBA journey began when he was selected as the 24th overall pick by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2020 NBA draft. However, his rights were subsequently traded to the Denver Nuggets as part of a four-team deal that involved the Oklahoma City Thunder and New Orleans Pelicans in November of that same year.
Ausar Thompson and Marcus Sasser were chosen by Detroit in the 2023 NBA Draft.
