Stephon Castle thinks he's a lock for the Rookie of the Year award.
San Antonio Spurs rookie guard Stephon Castle is exuding confidence as the NBA regular season nears its conclusion.
In a recent interview with Paul Garcia on the 'Spot up pod', Castle stated, "I feel like, at this point, I pretty much got it locked up," referring to the Rookie of the Year (ROY) award.
Castle's assertion is backed by his consistent performance throughout the season. Averaging 14.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game, he has been a pivotal player for the Spurs, especially in the absence of Victor Wembanyama, who is sidelined indefinitely due to deep vein thrombosis.
His standout performances have not gone unnoticed. Castle was named the NBA Western Conference Rookie of the Month for March, marking his second such honor this season. During that month, he averaged 19.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game, scoring in double figures in 15 out of 17 games.
Castle's main competition includes players like Jared McCain of the Philadelphia 76ers, who averaged 15.3 points per game but was limited to 23 games due to injury. Other notable rookies such as Zaccharie Risacher, Alex Sarr, and Bub Carrington have had impactful seasons but haven't matched Castle's combination of production and availability.
The Spurs have four games remaining in the regular season, providing Castle additional opportunities to solidify his claim to the ROY award.
