He was chosen as this season's Rising Star after the votes from the competition's head coaches were tallied. The EuroCup Rising Star Trophy recognizes the most outstanding player in the competition who was younger than 22 years of age on July 1 of the summer before the season started.

The 21-year-old Montero surpassed Joan Beringer from Ljubljana’s Cedevita Olimpija, who finished second, while the Ulm Ratiopharm duo—Ben Saraf and Noa Essengue—took third and fourth place.

This season, Montero has averaged 13.2 points, 2.9 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and a performance index rating of 15.9 per game.

The Dominican Republic native became the first player from the Americas to win this title.

Among the previous Rising Star winners, two players have claimed the award twice: Aleksander Balcerowski (2021 and 2023) and Bojan Dubljevic (2013 and 2014).

Other past winners include: Milan Macvan (2009), Víctor Claver (2010), Donatas Motiejunas (2011), Jonas Valanciunas (2012), Kristaps Porzingis (2015), Mateusz Ponitka (2016), Rolands Smits (2017), Dzanan Musa (2018), Martynas Echodas (2019), Khalifa Diop (2022), and Zaccharie Risacher (2023).
