The move underscores the organization's confidence in Rajakovic's leadership during a transformative period for the team. With Rajakovic at the helm and a restructured roster, the Raptors are focused on developing their young core and integrating new acquisitions.

The Serbian native, who succeeded Nick Nurse, has amassed a record of 53-104 over two seasons. Despite the challenges reflected in this record, the Raptors' management has shown patience and belief in his long-term vision by securing his position through the 2026-27 season.

The Raptors initiated a significant rebuild last season by trading key players OG Anunoby and Pascal Siakam. Anunoby was sent to the New York Knicks in exchange for RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, and a 2024 second-round draft pick. Siakam was traded to the Indiana Pacers, bringing in Bruce Brown, Jordan Nwora, Kira Lewis Jr., and three first-round draft picks. These moves signaled a strategic shift towards building around younger talents like Scottie Barnes.

Toronto also played a facilitator role in a blockbuster trade involving Jimmy Butler, which resulted in the acquisition of Brandon Ingram. Despite being sidelined due to injury, Ingram was signed to a three-year extension and has yet to make his debut for the Raptors.

Rajakovic began his coaching career in the Spanish EBA league before transitioning to the NBA. He served as an assistant coach with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Phoenix Suns and was the top assistant for the Memphis Grizzlies prior to joining the Raptors.
