The Boston Celtics faced a tense moment when Jayson Tatum went down in pain after landing on Domantas Sabonis' foot during their 113-95 victory over the Sacramento Kings.

Fortunately, it appears he avoided a serious injury, though he’s currently listed as doubtful for Wednesday’s matchup against the Phoenix Suns.

With the Celtics comfortably holding the second seed in the Eastern Conference, there’s little urgency to rush Tatum back onto the court.

According to the Locked on Celtics podcast, the team’s decision to list him as doubtful rather than immediately ruling him out could be a strategic move to ease him out of the lineup. He is likely to miss the game against Phoenix.

"Just say doubtful and leave the door open, and then we'll rule him out tomorrow. And then we'll put sleeping pills in his drink, and he'll go to sleep and miss the game and wake up mad at us, but his ankle will be 24 hours healthier," Tom Westerholm insisted the importance of rest for Jayson Tatum, on the podcast.

Tatum has already played 66 games this season, making him eligible for regular season awards. Throughout the campaign, he has averaged an impressive 27.1 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 6.0 assists, further cementing his status as one of the league’s elite players.
