San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich is making significant progress in his recovery after suffering a mild stroke last November.
According to Harrison Barnes, Popovich is "ahead of schedule" in his rehab, via ESPN. Another source noted that in just five months, he has advanced to a stage that typically takes stroke patients around nine months to reach.
However, it remains uncertain whether the legendary coach will continue leading the Spurs next season.
At 75, Popovich is a Hall of Famer who has been with San Antonio since 1996. He holds the record for the most wins in NBA history and has guided the franchise to five NBA championships. Additionally, he is a three-time NBA Coach of the Year.
With interim head coach Mitch Johnson at the helm, the Spurs currently sit 13th in the Western Conference with a 28-39 record. The season once held promise, with hopes of a deep playoff push, but season-ending injuries to both Victor Wembanyama and De'Aaron Fox dashed those aspirations. Now, the team looks ahead to next season.
