"Russell — whose 8.7 assists per 100 possessions with the Lakers were his worst since his rookie season — has handed out a dozen per 100 since joining the Nets, the best in his career by a huge margin. With the ball in his hands and a leadership role, Russell is believed to have told those around him he wants to stay," Lewis reported.
The 29-year-old returned to Brooklyn after the LA Lakers traded him, along with Maxwell Lewis and three second-round draft picks, in exchange for Dorian Finney-Smith and Shake Milton.
Over 18 games (15 starts) with the Nets, Russell has averaged 13.8 points and 5.8 assists. The team has a record of 8-9 with him on the court, but they struggled without him, going just 1-10 in his absence.
"DLo" previously played for the Nets from 2017 to 2019.
